Apalachee faces down Heritage

By staff reports
BETHLEHEM -- The Apalachee football team scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to seal a 28-14 victory over Heritage in Bethlehem.

The Wildcats (3-1, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA) stayed in the thick of the Region 8-AAAA title hunt thanks in large part to Stanley Williams, who scored three touchdowns, including a 96-yard kickoff return.

The Apalachee defense also played a key role against the Patriots (3-2, 3-2), holding the visitors under their season average of 21 points per game.

"We played well on defense tonight," Wildcats coach Shane Davis said. "Offensively, we kept working and busted some long runs on them."

Williams ripped off touchdown runs of 39 and 50 yards against Heritage, while Alex Camp also had a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

Apalachee led 7-0 and 14-7, but the Patriots knotted the score at 14-14 at the end of the third quarter.

"We've got a resilient bunch here," Davis said. "Our kids keep working; we've still got a long way to go, but we're improving."

Apalachee travels to take on Madison County next Friday.
