Brrrr! Cold snap in Georgia to last this week

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA - Better keep those gloves and scarves handy. Forecasters are still saying the cold snap that has hit Georgia is going to hang around until at least the end of the week and snow is possible Thursday and Friday, along with freezing rain.

Monday dawned clear, cold and windy across north Georgia, with temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single-digits.

The high Monday will be in the low 30s in most places in north Georgia with lows in the teens again. The pattern will continue for most of the week. Some places in and around Atlanta could see overnight temperatures in the single digits before week's end.

The cold temperatures will be coupled with wind gusts of up to 25 mph, making it feel colder than it is outside.

The normal high for early January in north Georgia is around 50 degrees, normal lows about 32.

The cold is not confined just to north Georgia. Hard freeze warnings have been posted for the southern part of the state.
