Police: Ga. professor shot wife's friend first

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Authorities are releasing new details surrounding a deadly shooting April 25 outside an Athens theater that left three people dead and prompted an international manhunt for a Georgia professor.

Police say marketing professor George Zinkhan targeted a Clemson University economist who volunteered with the professor's wife at the local theater group.

Authorities say Zinkhan fired at Tom Tanner first, then aimed at Zinkhan's wife, Marie Bruce.

Jim Fullington with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the third victim, Ben Teague, was ``at the wrong place, at the wrong time.''

All three died at the scene. Zinkhan disappeared after the shooting. Police found his body two weeks later in a self-dug grave in the woods not far from his home.

Police said Zinkhan died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
