JEFFERSON - Michael Pesaresi rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns and Jackson County had over 350 yards of total offense against Elbert County but it wasn't enough Friday night as the Panthers lost a heartbreaker to the Blue Devils, 28-27, in Region 8-AAA action.
Jackson County (3-5, 0-5 in region) took a 21-14 lead into halftime over the Blue Devils (7-1, 4-1) but Elbert came out firing in the second half and got two quick third quarter touchdowns to reclaim the lead 28-21.
The Panthers scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 28-27 but missed the extra point. They had a chance to take the lead but missed a 17-yard field goal with just over six minutes left in the game.
Sophomore quarterback Jalen Banks had a solid game going 22-for-33 with 181 yards passing for Jackson County. Charles Smothers also scored a touchdown for the Panthers.
Elbert got its first score of the game on an interception return for a touchdown.
