Gilliam: City Center suit filed after talks broke down

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - A suit has been filed over access to the site of the new midtown development in Gainesville which is to include three high-rise buildings and a multi-level parking deck.

Regions Bank is suing Gainesville City Center, LLC, alleging it is illegally being denied access to the site from Bradford Street.

Work on demolishing most of the buildings on the site began a few weeks ago. Regions' operations center is located on the site.

The bank's attorney, Steve Gilliam, told AccessNorthGa.com Tuesday morning the only access that will be left for the bank, as the project is now planned, will be off Jesse Jewell Parkway via Green Street next to the city's public safety building. That, Gilliam said, is not enough because of the way traffic flow is controlled on Jewell.

Gilliam said the suit was filed after negotiations over settling the question of an easement failed.

The attorney for Gainesville City Center is Julius Hulsey, who, at mid-morning Tuesday, had not responded to a request for comment.

No hearing has been set on the suit which was filed in Hall County Superior Court.
