GAINESVILLE - Gainesville, Buford, and Flowery Branch all moved on Friday night in the state football payoffs.

Region 7-AAA teams Gainesville and Flowery Branch each advanced to the third round of the Class AAA playoffs for the first time since 2005. Gainesville jumped on Cartersville early and then held on for a 42-28 win at Bobby Gruhn Field while Flowery Branch scored late in the fourth quarter to break a tie with Ridgeland and take a 21-14 win on the road.

North Hall, however, could not make it a Region 7-AAA sweep falling to high-scoring Dunwoody 18-13 on the road.

In Class AA, defending state champion Buford routed North Oconee 44-7 at Tom Riden Stadium to advance and extend its winning streak to 27 games.

Region 8-AA champ Jefferson battled 2007 state runner-up Lovett for three quarters before eventually falling 34-24 at Memorial Stadium.
