Authorities look at N.C., Fla. deaths

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have met with North Carolina officials to discuss a possible connection between the case of the missing hiker and the disappearance and presumed killings of a couple in October.

They also plan to meet with Florida investigators about the death of a Florida woman.

Authorities met Monday at the GBI Regional Office in Cleveland to discuss the North Carolina case involving John and Irene Bryant. GBI Director Vernon Keenan says no conclusion has been reached.

In the Florida case, the body of Cheryl Hodges Dunlap was found December 19th in the Apalachicola National Forest, southwest of Tallahassee. Authorities say a masked person suspected in Dunlap's death used her ATM card three times after her disappearance December 1.

Other missing persons cases have been discussed, but GBI officials say those are the only two cases they're considering linking to Hilton at this point.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Monday night that Gary Michael Hilton led authorities to the body of 24-year-old Meredith Emerson in a wooded area of north Georgia. (See separate story).
