Tebow becomes NCAA's first 20-20 player

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - Tim Tebow became the first player in NCAA history with at least 20 touchdowns passing and rushing in the same season, Andre Caldwell broke the school record for career receptions and No. 14 Florida hammered Florida Atlantic 59-20 Saturday.

Tebow finished 25-of-34 passing for a career-high 338 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score. He has 20 rushing touchdowns and 26 TD passes.

His 20th on the ground broke the previous Southeastern Conference single-season record of 19 held by Georgia's Garrison Hearst (1992), Alabama's Shaun Alexander (1999) and LSU's LaBrandon Toefield (2001).

Caldwell caught a career-high 13 passes for 164 yards, giving him 176 career receptions and breaking the previous mark of 172 set by Carlos Alvarez (1969-71).

The news wasn't all good for the defending Southeastern Conference and national champions. Georgia's victory over Kentucky eliminated Florida (8-3) from the SEC East race.

Alvarez was on hand to see his record fall. He also witnessed another dominating performance by Tebow & Co.

Tebow probably would have been on the bench by halftime, but Florida's defense struggled to stop Florida Atlantic's passing attack, so the Heisman Trophy hopeful stayed on long enough to turn a close game into a rout.

The Gators scored on nearly every possession. They led 21-0 after the first quarter, 35-20 at half and 52-20 early in the fourth.

The Owls (5-4) didn't move the ball nearly as well as Florida, but they racked up 311 yards in the first half and gave the Gators plenty of problems.

Still, every time FAU got close, Tebow took over.

His 2-yard run made it 28-13 with 5:04 to play in the first half, but FAU answered when quarterback Rusty Smith ran up the middle from a yard out with 1:13 remaining.

That left plenty of time for Tebow, who capped a 63-yard drive with a 26-yard TD pass to Cornelius Ingram. Ingram finished with four catches for 60 yards and two scores.

Kestahn Moore also had two TD runs for the Gators, the second one coming on the opening drive of the third quarter. Tebow's 13-yard pass to Aaron Hernandez - the freshman tight end wrestled the ball away from Frantz Joseph in the end zone - made it 48-20 late in the third.

Tebow left the game with 11:11 remaining, giving way to freshman Cameron Newton. Newton had a 24-yard scoring run with 6:49 to play.

Tebow completed his first 10 passes for 145 yards, finding Caldwell open all over the field. Caldwell again filled in for Percy Harvin, who missed his second consecutive game because of a sinus infection and migraine headaches. Caldwell caught 11 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown last week at South Carolina.

Caldwell broke Alvarez's record late in the first half.

Tebow's only flaw Saturday was an interception in the second quarter. His pass sailed over Louis Murphy's head and into Corey Small's hands. Small returned it 36 yards, setting up Miller's 20-yard TD pass to Cortez Gent that made it 21-10.

Miller finished 18-of-33 for 290 yards. Gent caught six passes for 118 yards.

FAU added to its woes with a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown in the first quarter and a fumble deep in its own territory that led to a field goal.
