LAKE WALES, Fla. - A fugitive wanted on child molestation charges in northeast Georgia is in custody in Florida after authorities say he fired at sheriff's deputies attempting to arrest him at his Lake Wales campsite.
Christopher Edward Brown now faces two counts of attempted murder. He faced charges of child molestation in Pickens County, Ga., but failed to show up in court. Authorities traced him to his campsite at a Polk County hunting club in Florida.
Brown allegedly warned deputies approaching his cabin that he had a gun and was ``coming out shooting.'' He did, and the deputies returned fire before chasing him into the brush. No one was wounded, and Brown was eventually captured.
Sheriff's officials say Brown apologized and said he's afraid of going to jail in Georgia.
