CUMMING - An Atlanta TV station reports that all 67 registered sex offenders in Forsyth County are going to have to move by July 1 because of a new state law.
Many more of the state's registered sex offenders are also going to be forced to move because the law will place severe restrictions on where they can live.
WXIA-TV reports that many of Forsyth County's registered sex offenders have contacted the sheriff office, upset about the new law. One officer says some of them have lived in the same location for many years.
The new law restricts sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a church, community park, public pool or school bus stop. WXIA quotes school officials as saying there are about 7,000 bus stops in Forsyth County and the sheriff's office says they are the reason may of the county's registered sex offendes will be in violation of the new law.
A search of the GBI sex offender database Tuesday night revealed there are about 250 registered sex offenders living in Hall County, but it's unknown how many of them will have to move. (See separate story).
In a related note, on Tuesday, a civil liberties group filed suit in Rome on behalf of nine registered sex offenders, seeking to halt enforcement of the law. (See separate story.)
