GAINESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia Medical Center has a new tool in the fight against dementia.
It's a new imaging technology which is being used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease as it relates to dementia. Hospital officials say the new procedure produces images that provided "comprehensive...information" from a single exam.
The new technology has been approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. However, there are specific criteria which a patient must meet in order for the test to be covered by Medicare, according to Dr. David Carroll, director of P.E.T./C.T. Imaging at the medical center.
