GAINESVILLE - Winds gusted to 41 miles-an-hour at the height of the strong thunderstorm that pounded parts of Hall County early Saturday.
The numbers tell the story of the storm that raked the area about 4:30.
According to data collected at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport, the barometric pressure dropped from 29.76 at 12:50 Saturday morning to 29.63 at 3:50, about 40 minutes before the storm struck. The temperature dipped six degrees between 4:30 and 5:00 as the storm passed through, briefly producing hail in many areas.
For about 20 minutes, between 4:30 and 4:50, rain was falling at the rate of about one inch per hour. But, the storm was over quickly - after only about 15 minutes and produced only about .33 inches of rain.
Sustained winds during the storm were recorded at 25 miles-an-hour with the top gust at 43 miles-an-hour.
The storm was part of a cell that damaged scores of businesses and homes in metro Atlanta (see separate story) and about 100 boats at Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier near Flowery Brach (see separate story).
