Gas prices continue to soar

By by Ken Stanford
UNDATED - Gasoline prices in the Gainesville area are changing almost daily as they continue to push higher - and are now higher than they've been since last fall.

Early Monday morning, the price of regular unleaded was at or near $2.60 a gallon in most places in town.

Analyst Trilby Lundburg says, nationwide, prices are up 42 cents a gallon in the past six weeks but only about ten cents of that can be blamed on crude oil prices.

Lundberg says about 30 cents comes from higher cost of making gasoline. "These come from EPA standards that are different this year and energy bill provisions also in effect this year."

Gainesville area price timeline for average regular, unleaded:

Mar. 17 - $2.00
Apr. 7 - $2.20
Apr. 25 - $2.10
Aug. 5 - $2.25
Aug. 7 - $2.35
Aug. 10 - $2.40
Sep. 1 - $3.19 (morning)
Sep. 1 - $3.49
Nov. 4 - $2.35
Dec. 3 - $1.90
Dec. 31 - $2.16
Apr. 10 - $2.60
