$20M in road improvements OK'd for NE Ga.

ATLANTA - The state Department of Transportation has approved more than $66 million in road improvement contracts, statewide, including $20 million in northeast Georgia.

A Gainesville company has been selected for one of the northeast Georgia projects.

"These widening and reconstruction projects are integral components to the DOT's efforts to maintain a safe driving environment on our roads," DOT Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl said.

The work is planned in three counties (which are in DOT District 1, Northeast Georgia):

· Habersham and Stephens Counties: C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta will complete 27.2 miles of widening for turn lanes, construction of media crossovers and intersection improvements on US 23/SR 365 beginning west of CR 384 (Duncan Bridge Road) and extending east of CR 447 (Davis Mountain Road) and on US 441/SR 15 beginning at SR 17 and extending to old US 441/CR 648. The estimated completion date is June 30, 2008. The estimated cost is $17,789,001.82.

· Hart County: Cornett Bridge, Inc. of Gainesville will construct a bridge and approaches on SR 172 over Coldwater Creek. The project also includes construction of a detour bridge. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2008. The estimated cost is $2,367,133.28.

District 2 (East Central Georgia):

· District 2: Ultraliner, Inc. of Oxford, Ala., will install drainage pipe liners at various locations in District 2. The estimated completion date is December 31 2007. The estimated cost is $1,900,292.00.

· Bleckley County: Gregory Bridge Company of Eatonton will complete construction of bridge and approaches on SR 126 over Gum Swamp Creek. The project also includes construction of a detour bridge. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $1,897,711.05.

· Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond Counties: Reeves Construction Company of Macon will complete 19.5 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on US 78/SR 10 beginning at SR 12 and extending east of CR 127 (Dodge Lane). The estimated completion date is December 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $3,883,713.30.

· Putnam County: Reeves Construction Company of Macon will complete 10 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on SR 44 Beginning at SR 16 and extending to the Greene County Line. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $2,347,594.40.

· Washington County: Reeves Construction Company of Macon will complete 2.2 miles of widening for passing lanes and turn lane construction on SR 24 beginning west of Chickasaw Road and extending east of CR 112. The estimated completion date is March 31, 2008. The estimated cost is $5,650,518.44.

District 3 (West Central Georgia):

· Stewart County: Robinson Paving Company of Columbus will complete 14 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on SR 39 beginning at the SR 39 Spur and extending west of US 27/SR 1 and on SR 39 Spur beginning at the Alabama state line and extending to SR 39. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $2,029,492.85.

District 5 (Southeast Georgia):

· Bacon County: Dixie Roadbuilders, Inc. of Waycross will complete 1.59 miles of resurfacing on SR 4 beginning south of SR 32 and extending to SR 4. The estimated completion date is May 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $524,374.10.

· Telfair County: Southern Concrete Construction Co., Inc. of Albany will complete construction of bridge and approaches on SR 117 over Big Horse Creek. The project also includes construction of a detour bridge. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2008. The estimated cost is $2,977,596.40.

District 6 (Northwest Georgia):

· Bartow and Polk Counties: C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta will complete 4.5 miles of widening for turn lanes, roadway reconstruction and intersection improvements on SR 113 beginning at CR 249 and extending to the CR 31. The project also includes realignment of SR 113. The estimated completion date is August 31, 2008. The estimated cost is $17,442,917.62.

· Catoosa County: C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta will complete intersection improvements at various locations on SR 2 beginning at CS 681 (Lakehouse Drive) and extending to CR 168 (Akins Road). The project also includes installation of video cameras. The estimated completion date is December 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $6,455,680.10.

· Whitfield County: Northwest Georgia Paving Company, Inc. of Calhoun will complete 3.4 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on SR 3 beginning east of Chattanooga Road and extending north of SR 201.The estimated completion date is August 31, 2007. The estimated cost is $1,415,379.28.
