ATLANTA - Phillip Wellman, the hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves' farm club in Mississippi the last two years, was been named manager of the Double-A team on Tuesday.
Wellman, 43, managed the Rookie League Danville Braves in 2004 after coaching in the Cincinnati organization from 1996-2003. Wellman also served as manager for the Pulaski Braves in 1988.
Wellman coached in the 2002 Futures Game and was selected as ``Prospect Manager'' of the Southern League by Baseball America in 2003.
The Braves also named Tommy Shields as minor league field coordinator and John Coppolella as director of baseball administration.
Shields previously was assistant minor league field coordinator. He previously worked in the Baltimore and St. Louis organizations as a minor league coach and manager.
Shields played from 1986-1994 in the Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Chicago Cubs organizations.
