LSU trio misses opening of the USA Women's World University Games

BATON ROUGE, la. (AP) LSU players Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles and coach Pokey Chatman were to miss Team USA's opening game in the Women's World University Games against the Czech Republic.<br>

The games are being played in Izmir, Turkey. Augustus, Fowles and Chatman returned to Baton Rouge to attend Monday funeral services for former LSU coach Sue Gunter, meaning they would not be able to return in time for the opening game, which was set for 3:45 a.m. CDT Wednesday.<br>

Augustus and Fowles were expected to rejoin the team for Thursday's game. Chatman, an assistant coach for Team USA, will return to the squad for Friday's game.<br>
<br>
Team USA is in Group B of pool play along with China, Poland, the Republic of South Africa and Wednesday's opponent Czech Republic. The winner of the pool will advance to the medal round.<br>
