Gainesville man retiring as head of education group

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man who has headed an Atlanta-based higher education group for 20 years is retiring.

Dr. James Rogers is also a former longtime President of Brenau University in Gainesville.

He has headed the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges since 1985. The association is the accrediting body for colleges and universities in eleven Southern states.

According to the association Web site, Dr. Rogers will be succeed by Dr. Belle Wheelan, the Secretary of Education in Virginia.
