WINDER - A $69 million dollar Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax will be on the line Tuesday in Barrow County.
Voters will be asked to approve a six-year extension of an existing SPLOST.
The money would be used for a number of projects:
-roads
-9-1-1 facility
-cultural arts center
-health department
-a new courthouse and detention center
-renovation of the old courthouse
-streetscaping in each of the towns in the county
-Bear Creek Reservoir bond payment
-fire stations and training center
-parks and recreation
-sewer service
-the airport
-animal control
-West Winder ByPass
The referendum is one of a number referendums and special elections scheduled around the state Tuesday. The most-watched of them is the voting in Sandy Springs which will decide whether that long-unincorporated part of Fulton County will become Georgia's seventh-largest city, with a population of about 85,000.
