Fire marshal investigating fireworks show complaints

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Fire Marshal said Friday morning the company handling the fireworks show for Free Chapel Worship Center Thursday night, which generated numerous calls to 911, was operating outside the time frame approved by his office.

"I am aware of the numerous complaints received regarding the fireworks display last night at the old Free Chapel site (on McEver Road Extension)," Scott Cagle. "The permit was issued for a 30-minute show that was supposed to be between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The company, Bay Fireworks, operated outside of their permit."

The fireworks started around 10:15 and continued until about 11:00.

Cagle said 911 reported getting "25-50 calls" complaining of the noise.

"Although there are no legal consequences that I can find, I will be contacting the company to discuss this matter further," Cagle added.
