ATLANTA - The Oakwood area is a step closer to having a reconstructed I-985 interchange at Mundy Mill Road and a new interchange just north of there at Atlanta Highway.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has signed off on the design of the projects.
GDOT spokesman Rick Parham says the public will get its first chance to see the plans for the Atlanta Highway interchange early next year at a public information open house tentatively scheduled for Jan. 26.
The projects also include construction of a new four-lane divided roadway from the new interchange to Mundy Mill Road near Gainesville College. In addition, a new park-and-ride lot will be built at the Georgia 13 interchange.
Work on the projects is still several years away.
