Report: Armstrong leaving JHS for Peachtree Ridge

By By Jeff Hart
OAKWOOD - Is another local football coach changing jobs in Hall County?

Some reports over the past 48 hours have Johnson's Blair Armstrong taking the job at Peachtree Ridge in Suwanee.

But Armstrong, who has led the Knights to three straight state playoff appearances since taking over the job in 2002, is under contract with Hall County for next year.

Hall County Athletic Director Gordan Higgins Wednesday afternoon could not confirm that Armstrong is leaving.

"As of right now, he is under contract with Hall County. Peachtree Rdige has said they are interested in Coach Armstrong but so far we have not received any resignations or anything of that sort," Higgins said. "But things could change in the next few days."

Armstrong has not been available for comment the past two days and Johnson school officials have said only that they are aware of the situation but that nothing definitive has happened.

Spring football practice begins in Hall County in two weeks.

In a separate report, Johnson boys soccer coach Mark Dunn said the paperwork at the Hall County School offices of him taking a teaching position at Chestatee High School are correct.

"We are looking forward to having Mark join our staff because he is an outstanding person as well as a teacher," Chestate principal Bill Thompson said. "As far as coaching positions go, Dunn definitely has not been offered the boys position here. We already have a coach."

Neither Dunn nor Thompson, however, had any comments on any possible coaching changes in the future at Chestatee.

Dunn is currently in the middle of a season where Johnson is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class AAA.
