GAINESVILLE - Lakeside on Lanier, a tabloid-style publication that you can pick up outside grocery stores, restaurants and other places around Lake Lanier is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Creator Alan Hope of Gainesville said it was a risky venture at the time.
"[It was] the most frightening thing I'd ever done," Hope says. "For the first several years it was 'can 'til can't.'"
"I created the paper to make it a Lake Lanier paper, and to let people know exactly what was going on on the lake."
He launched his first 12-page issue just before the Olympics came to Lake Lanier in 1996. Hope now turns out up to a 100 pages per month.
