DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Chris Barclay broke the Wake Forest rushing record with a 19-yard run in the third quarter against Duke on Saturday, giving the four-year starter 3,816 yards in his career.
That was 5 yards better than James McDougald's total from 1976-79 and moved Barclay into eighth-place all-time in the Atlantic Coast Conference. If he continues at his current pace, he would finish in the top five.
Barclay ran for 68 yards on his first carry of the game and, a possession after setting the record, he broke through the Blue Devils' defense for a 71-yard touchdown. It was his second score of the game and gave him 234 points for his career, also best in school history.
