UNDATED — Kentucky is believed to be the first university to convert its athletic department to a limited-liability holding company.
The school says Champions Blue LLC will have financial flexibility and access to new revenue.
The move comes as a federal judge considers final approval for a $2.8 billion settlement that will allow schools to share millions of dollars in revenue with their athletes and ramp up competition for top recruits looking for lucrative endorsement deals.
