WINDER - The Barrow County Commission has agreed to spend $82,000 to study the county's need for a new jail.
The Athens Banner-Herald and WSB-TV report the money will be spent on a study that will determine how large a jail the county needs and where it should be built.
One of the sites being considered is in the western part of the county between Pearl Pentecost Road and Georgia Highway 211. The current jail is in downtown Winder.
It is a 90-bed facility, but the Georgia Sheriff's Association says the county needs a 500-bed complex.
