Lady War Eagles shock White County

GAINESVILLE - Chestatee girls basketball coach Lewis Shirley has been waiting for his team to have its breakout game.<br> <br> It finally arrived Tuesday night in a thrilling 49-46 win over White County.<br> <br> &#34;We all felt like we were improving but we couldn&#39;t get that really big win. This gives us a little evidence of the progress we&#39;ve made,&#34; Shirley said.<br> <br> The Lady War Eagles (8-14, 3-4 Region 7-AAA South) have won two of their last three subregion games.<br> <br> The Lady Warriors (13-10, 7-2) came in tied for first with Fannin County but now must wait to see if either Gilmer or North hall can knock off the Lady Rebels to have a chance at the subregion title.<br> <br> Both teams made runs as the momentum switched back and forth. Chestatee led 21-14 early in the second quarter but White County reeled off a 10-0 to help take a 24-23 lead into halftime.<br> <br> The Lady Warriors then led 37-33 in the fourth quarter after an 8-2 run but Chestatee came storming back with a 13-2 run to take a 46-39 lead.<br> <br> White County was able to cuthe lead to 48-48 with 34 seconds left but Chestatee was able to hold on down the stretch. The Lady war Eagles hit 7-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to just 1-of-2 for White County.<br> <br> Sophomore Anna Bailey, who has picked up her game, again led Chestatee with 15 points. Erika Rylee added 11.<br> <br> &#34;Anna is starting to become the scoring threat we thought she could be. I like we&#39;ve been playing the last couple of weeks,&#34; Shirley said.<br> <br> White County&#39;s D.J. Galbiati had a team-high 13 points, which followed a 40-point effort against Habersham Central. Molly McDonald and Lindsay Barrett, who left late in the game with a shoulder injury, each had 12 points.
