GHS, Johnson stay put in AAA girls poll

GAINESVILLE - Both the Gainesville and Johnson girls basketball teams went undefeated last week to hold on to their spots in the latest Class AAA gabasketball.net poll, which was released Monday.

The Lady Red Elephants (19-3) remained atop the poll while the Lady Knights (18-5) stayed at No. 3. The two teams meet Friday in the regular season finale.

In the Class A rankings, Lakeview Academy in Gainesville continues its rise in the poll jumping to sixth from ninth. The Lady Lions (16-4) will play No. 11 Jefferson Tuesday with the Region 8-A North title on the line for both teams.

In Class AAA, Perry is second, with Westminster fourth and Spalding fifth. Dodge, Laney, Northeast Macon, Cartersville and Franklin County round out the top 10.

Flowery Branch (15-7) held steady at No. 13 in a tie this week with Cass.

Elbert County fell out of the top 15 this week.

In Class AAAAA, Collins Hill is No. 1.

In Class AAAA, Jackson County had a short-lived ranking falling out of the poll after being 12th last week, its first time in the poll. Cedar Shoals is sixth. Stone Mountain is No. 1.

In Class AA, Region 8-AA has three teams in the top 12. Wesleyan remains No. 1 with Greater Atlanta Christian dropping to seventh. The Buford Lady Wolves fell to 14th.

In Class A, Social Circle, which is also in Region 8-A, fell to No. 2 behind Jenkins County while Towns County remained 13th.
