GAINESVILLE - Lakeview Academy girls basketball coach Buster Brown earned his 400th career win Tuesday night against Jefferson.
But what he really wanted was No. 401 against Rabun Gap because that would mean the Lady Lions, coupled with a Towns County loss to Jefferson Friday night, would win their first-ever Region 8-A North title outright.
He got all his wishes as Class A No. 6-ranked Lakeview crushed Rabun Gap 59-20 while Jefferson took care of Towns County 56-50.
Chesley Chastain scored 19 points to lead Lakeview (18-5, 9-1). She also pulled down 10 rebounds. Lydiann Jacobs added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lions never trailed and jumped on Rabun early to make sure they did their part. The 18 wins are the most ever in a season for the Lakeview girls program.
