GAINESVILLE - The Region 8-A North No. 2 seed Lakeview boys will take on South No. 3-seed Athens Christian Wednesday night as the Lions try to advance into the Class A state tournment.
The Lakeview girls advanced to the first-ever trip to the state tournament with a 45-32 win over Prince Avenue Christian Tuesday night.
The Lakeview boys beat Athens Christian 51-37 last month in their only meeting during the regular season.
The Lions (16-7) have been solid all season behind Will Crumley and Dustin Wellborn.
Boys coach Richie Hughes said the tournament should be wide open on the boys side.
"After Jefferson, there are four teams with a legitimate shot to win it and move on (to state)," Hughes said. "Athens Academy, us, Towns County, even Commerce if they get hot could win it. It should be an exciting tournament."
