GAINESVILLE - With leading scorer Brent Benson on the bench with an arm injury, the Gainesville boys basketball team was looking for a leader.

They never found one as Johnson used a 21-9 third quarter to pull away from the Red Elephants to take a 70-55 win in the third-place game of the Region 7-AAA Tournament Saturday night.

Johnson, meanwhile, was paced by Sam Greavu, who poured in 21 pointsz from the inside while Tarik Smith (16) and Tyler Sanders (17) provided the outside offense, Sanders drilled five 3-pointers.

For Gainesville, Jamarco Warren and Trey Smith each had 11 points. Grant Patrick and Jeremy Little scored 10 apice for the Elephants.

Benson, who is the leading scorer in Hall County, did not play Saturday after injuring his elbow in a fall during Friday night's loss to White County in the semifinals.

"He played with a lot of pain in the second half (last night) and he just couldn't go (Saturday night),' Gainesville coach Jerry Davis said. "He's going to have it looked at on Monday. I don't know right now what his status is for the state tournament."

Johnson led 12-10 after the first quarter and just 26-24 at halftime. But the Knights used a 7-0 run midwqay through the third quarter to help build a 47-33 lead.
