Vikings open playoffs with win over Villa Rica

GAINESVILLE - The East Hall boys basketball team Friday night picked up right where it left off after last year's Class AAA state playoffs.

The Vikings (27-2) hit 15 3-pointers and completely shut down Villa Rica in an 86-66 win in the first round at the Gainesville gym.

East Hall next will play the winner of the Avondale-Hart County game played Saturday night.

The Vikings advance to the Sweet 16 to play the Avondale-Hart County winner next week.

East Hall was cold to start the game hitting just 1-of-8 from the field to open the game. Villa Rica was even colder missing six straight shots, including three layups.

Eventually the breakneck pace of East Hall began to take its toll. The Trojans turned the ball over three straight times, twice being capped by East Hall 3-pointers.

Villa Rica was even colder as the Vikings defense allowed the Trojans (19-10) just 2-of-12 shooting to open the game.

Frank Davis led East Hall with 21 points, including 6 3-pointers. Keldrick Coleman added 18, Marquez Jackson 11 and Waler Hill 10.

The Vikings used a 16-4 run to open the second half to essentially put the game asway. They led 49-28 at halftime once the smoke cleared.
