Tigers pin depleted Johnson squad

By By Jeff Hart
DAWSONVILLE - Battling sickness and injury, the Johnson High wrestling team was no match against a powerful Dawson County squad Monday night.

The Tigers, who finished second in Class AA last season, whipped the Knights 72-12 in a dual match.

Johnson (10-12) got its points from two forfeits. DeAnn Hudson (103-pounds) and Chris Grindle (112) both got victories.

The Knights were without leaders John Michaels (160) who injured his shoulder in the Hall County Duals last week and has not wrestled or practice since, and Nick Wright (152) who has been an illness all week.

Johnson also had five wrestlers out of position against Dawson.

"We're pretty tough when we have Nick and John but without them and then having to move people around, (Dawson) just was too tough for us," Johnson coach Garry Glenn said.

It doesn't get any easier for the Knights, who will next take part in the six-team Habersham Central Tournament Saturday.
