Humphrey, Benson lead GHS to wins over Johnson

Gainesville's girls' and boys' teams took a doubleheader at Johnson Tuesday night, winning the girls' game 61-54 and the boys' action 81-72.

Tasha Humphrey led the Lady Red Elephants with 32 points, 4 assists and 9 rebounds. Shawana Harrison had 10 points and Lauren Niles returned to the lineup with 6 points and 8 rebounds.

The Lady Knights were led by Brooke Baker, who had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Melissa Johnson had 11 points and Whitney Randolph had 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Johnson pulled with five points late in the fourth quarter after trailing by 15 when the final period began.

In boys' play, Brent Benson led Gainesville with 31 points. Kenji Cobb had 12 points and 9 rebounds, Jon Mark Owings had 10 and 8 rebounds; Jeremy Little had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Jamarco Warren had 10 points.

Johnson was led in scoring by Tarik Smith with 33 points. Sam Greavu had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and Jeremy Matthews had 13 points.
