Lady Elephants survive scare, stay No. 1 in AAA

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Lady Red Elephants basketball team remained atop the gabasketball.net Class AAA girls rankings, which were released monday night.

Last week they had to share the spot with Perry but this week own the spot outright. The Lady Elephants (17-3) got a scare Friday night in a close win against West Hall.

Meanwhile, the Johnson Lady Knights (15-5) remained at No. 3 behind Gainesville and Perry. Flowery Branch (14-6) dropped to 13th in Class AAA.

Among other northeast Georgia teams in AAA, Franklin County is eighth and Elbert County fell from eighth to 14th.

In Class AAAAA, Collins Hill is No. 1.

In Class AAAA, Jackson County (15-6) entered the latest poll at 12th. Cedar Shoals is sixth.

In Class AA, Region 8-AA has three teams in the top 12. Wesleyan remains No. 1 with Greater Atlanta Christian moving up to fifth. The Buford Lady Wolves remained 12th.

In Class A, Region 8-A has four teams in the latest poll. Social Circle is No. 1 with Lakeview Academy ninth. Jefferson is 10th and Towns County 12th.
