COMMERCE - A new team. New faces. Yet, the same old story for Commerce football coach Steve Savage.
The Class A No. 5-ranked Tigers enter Friday night's game against Class AA Morgan County 2-0 and on a roll after whipping Banks County, another Class AA team, 35-14 last week.
But Savage says he'll really find out about his team on Friday.
"(Morgan's) the defending region champs, they've got most everyone back, they're big and physical. I think they'll tell us where we are after that," Savage said.
Morgan (1-0) has had two weeks off since beating central Macon 23-14. They run a powerful wing-T offense.
Savage said they will be tough to stop.
"We'll have to be focused on defense and play well. But I've been pleased overall with how we've done," he said.
On offense, the Tigers are led by returning starter Josh Haynes at quarterback and running back Dennis Wilder and fullback David Bray.
"They've all done good jobs so far. I think we have a chance if we try improve on some of the mistakes we made last week," Savage said.
The Tigers have two straight road games following Morgan County - at Class A No. 1 Lincoln County and at Madison County - before jumping into their Region 8-A schedule.
