Knights survive scare from Fannin

By By Jeff Hart
BLUE RIDGE - Sometimes you're just destined to repeat history.

And then sometimes you learn from the past.

The Johnson Knights learned how to win ugly Friday night, pulling away late to beat Fannin County in a key Region 7-AAA game.

Fannin upset the Knights last year and nearly cost them a spot in the playoffs.

Jeremy Casper scored on a 1-yard touchdown runs to give Johnson (4-0, 4-0) a 21-14 lead and then Cardy McKensey scored late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Johnson coach Blair Armstrong said earlier in the week he was worried about a possible letdown with a showdown with undefeated Gainesville looming next week.

Fannin (2-2, 2-2) matched the Knights score for score until Johnson got going in the fourth quarter.

Blake Albertson opened the scoring for Johnson in the first quarter.
