GAINESVILLE - Hall County Chief Magistrate Gene Roberts has been named to fill a new Hall County State Court judgeship. Roberts, who was appointed to the post by Governor Perdue, is to be sworn in Tuesday.

He says he expects to go to work the next day.

"He (State Court Judge Charles Wynne) said 'good', we'll have some stuff for you to do next week," Roberts said. "So, I'll probably be taking the bench over there Wednesday morning."

Judge Roberts says he looks foward to working with juries again - something he says he's missed since becoming a Magistrate.

"It gives me the opportunity to be back in front of a jury in a different capcacity, so, I look forward to doing that again."

No word on when a successor to Roberts will be named. He has served as a Magistrate Court judge since 1996 and was elected chief magistrate almost two years ago.
