Lady Trojans beat White County for tourney title

CLEVELAND - New North Hall girls basketball coach Debbie Blake had a hard time controling her excitement when asked how things are going just one week into the season.

And why not.

Blake's Lady Trojans beat host White County 70-58 Tuesday night to win the United Community Bank Tournament title.

It was their second straight win since dropping their opener to Flowery Branch.

"I couldn't be more pleased. The girls are working hard and having fun and we're improving with each game," Blake said.

Megan Westmoreland, who scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, was named tournament MVP.

Freshman guard Beth Ann Hamilton scored a team-high 17 points. Lindsey Kitchens added 14 points and Katie Coker 11 for North Hall.

The Lady Warriors (1-1) led 12-10 after the first quarter but North Hall came back to take a 43-42 lead into halftime.

The Lady Trojans blew the game open in the third quarter outscoring White County 17-12. North Hall held on in the fourth quarter.

north Hall is off until it plays host to West Hall next Tuesday.

Molly McDonald scored 21 points to lead White County (1-1). D.J. Galbiati scored 14 for the Warriors, who are off until next Tuesday when they play host to Franklin County.
