GHS blows out Gilmer in big fourth quarter

GAINESVILLE - Brent Benson led four players in double figures as the Gainesville boys basketball team rolled over Gilmer Friday night, 81-50.

The Red Elephants (6-1) outscored Gilmer 32-10 in the fourth quarter to blow open a close game.

Benson finished with 24 points. james Chester added 18 and Jamarco Warren had 13 for Gainesville. Corey Wilmont poured in 10.

Gainesville coach Jerry davis said it wasn't pretty despite the final outcome.

"We didn't play well at all until the fourth quarter. It wasn't one of our better games," he said.

The Elephants led just 33-28 at halftime and 49-40 at the end of the third quarter.

The Elephants will be on the road Saturday against Chestatee in a rare afternoon game. Tip-off for the boys game is scheduled for around 4 p.m. following the girls' 2:30 start.
