Tough night for Region 8-AA in playoffs

UNDATED - Except for Buford, it was a rough night Friday for Region 8-AA in the quarterfinals of the Class AA state football playoffs.

Vidalia beat Greater Atlanta Christian 20-14, with all the scoring coming in the second half.

GAC was looking to make its second straight trip to the Georgia Dome. The Spartans lost to Buford last year in the state finals.

Wesleyan was beaten 24-14 by Charlton County. It was the deepest the six-year program had ever advanced in the playoffs.

Buford, the defending Class AA champs and also the Class A champ in 2001, beat Cook 30-12 and was the only Region 8-AA team to remain alive.
