ATLANTA - Buford in Class AA and Gainesville in Class AAA and remained No. 1 in their classification in this week's Associated Press high school football poll.
Buford (8-0) received 16 of 17 first place votes in Class AA. No. 6 Charlton County got the other first place vote. The Wolves have now been atop the poll for 15 consecutive weeks dating back to last season.
The Red Elephants (8-0) received 14 of 17 first place votes and got a total of 165 votes to Peach County's 137 in Class AAA. North Hall climbed one spot to No. 9 in the Class AAA poll while Stephens County remained at No. 8.
The new poll reflects few changes as ranked teams focus on region matchups and post season seeding. With all five classes accounted for, only three teams made an exit with an equal number entering the ranks.
The only change in Class AAAAA was Newnan claiming the No. 10 spot after sharing No. 9 in a tie with Lowndes last week. The remaining nine stayed the same with No. 1 Camden County receiving 14 of the 17 first place votes. No. 2 Parkview and No. 3 South Gwinnett round out the top three.
Class AAAA Winder-Barrow received five votes after its 11-0 upset win over Cedar Shoals last week. Cedar Shoals fell out of the rankings as a result. The top seven continue to hold their positions with Thomas County Central at No. 1, Marist at No. 2 and No. 3 Shaw leading the pack.
In Class AA, Morgan County (8-1) entered the poll at No. 10 as Randolph-Clay lost favor with voters after losing to No. 4 Americus 62-13. Macon County (8-1) climbed one slot to No. 9.
For the first time this season in any class, the ranking order in Class A reflected no change. Twelve first place votes were cast for No. 1 Lincoln County (9-0), while No. 2 Hawkinsville received two and No. 3 Clinch County tallied three. Commerce is No. 9.
