FLOWERY BRANCH - The rematch between Chestatee and Flowery Branch Friday night resembled nothing like last year's thrilling win for Chestatee.
The Falcons jumped on Chestatee early and often and cruised to a 28-7 win to get a measure of revenge over last year.
"These kids were focused the last two weeks and really wanted to win this game," Flowery Branch coach Lee Shaw said. "We played very well in the first half."
Flowery Branch (4-5, 4-5 in Region 7-AAA) finishes the year at Gainesville next week. The Falcons are arguably the most improved team in the region after going winless last season.
The Falcons opened the game with an 85-yard drive capped by a 1-yard run by Brian Smith. After they held Chestatee on its first possession, they marched down the field again getting a a 24-yard scoring run from Andy Espinosa to make it 14-0.
After a Aaron Shaw 17-yard run, Whitney Watkins, who finished with over 250 yards of total offense again, went 72-yards to give Flowery branch a 28-0 just minutes into the second quarter.
"We had been preparing hard for two weeks and executed some different things the coaches had for us," Watkins said.
Chestatee (0-9. 0-9) never got going and scored its only points late in the game when Mikes Hicks hit Alex Conti on a 25-yard scoring pass.
