NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian scored 20 third quarter points to blow open a close game en route to a 41-12 win over Lumpkin County Friday night.
It was a battle for third place in Region 8-AA. With the loss Lumpkin (7-3) will play No. 5 Decatur next week in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.
The Indians had cut a 14-0 GAC lead in half when Dorian Dorsey scored from 6-yards early in the second quarter. Lumpkin then stopped GAC on its next possession and drove into GAC territory but was stopped on downs.
GAC tried to increase just before the half but the Lumpkin defense held on a goal line stand.
But the GAC offense picked up where it left off and scored on their first three second half possessions to run out to a 34-6 lead.
Lumpkin's only second half score came on a 9-yard interception return for a touchdown by Wil Maxwell.
