GAINESVILLE - Main Street Gainesville has received state and national recognition for its downtown revitalization efforts.

The Georgia Main Street Program and the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Center have designated Main Street Gainesville a National Main Street Community.

In addition, the Georgia Downtown Association recognized Main Street Gainesville's Streetscape Project for Best Public Design-Based Activity and Main Street Market for Best Private Sector Economic Development Project.

"Gainesville continues to be a model program for the state and the nation," said Kennedy Smith, Director of the National Main Street Center in Washington, D.C.

"I think the whole state and the country are aware of the rapid progress that has been made here," said Main Street Gainesville Executive Director Joe Burnette. "It's not my accomplishments, per se. It's the accomplishments of our partners, in this case the city and one of our major developers."
