MOUNT AIRY - The Habersham Central football team needs a win - bad.
The Raiders (0-4, 0-4 in Region 8-AAAA) have had little go right so far in 2003 after an 8-3 season in 2002. They will get a chance for their first victory under new coach Gene Cathcart Friday against Eastside-Covington (1-3, 1-3).
The Eagles are giving up 28 points a game on defense but offensively is where the Raiders have struggled in 2003. They lost 19- of 22 starters from a year ago and the offense is averaging just 13.9 points a game.
A win would move Habersham out of the cellar in the region standings.
In other Region 8-AAAA action, Clarke Central (4-0, 4-0) plays at Loganville (1-2, 1-2). Salem (3-1, 3-1) plays host to Rockdale County (1-2, 1-2) and Heritage (2-3, 2-3) travels to Newton County (2-2, 2-2).
Winder-Barrow (4-1, 4-1), which suffered its first loss last week, Cedar Shoals (4-0, 4-0) and Jackson County (0-4, 0-4) are off.
Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central sit atop the region standings with Winder-Barrow third and Salem fourth.
