GAINESVILLE - For about 12 minutes, the Chestatee football team went to-to-toe with unbeaten North Hall Friday night.
But the Trojans stood tall and then exploded for 42 unanswered points in a 49-17 region 7-AAA win over the War Eagles at Chestatee Stadium.
The win sets up a showdown of unbeatens between North Hall and Gainesville next week at City Park.
North Hall (4-0, 4-0) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead just 1:25 into the game on a 16-yard touchdown run by T.J. Pitts.
But Chestatee (0-4, 0-4) answered four minutes later on an 18-yard TD pass from Chad Sage to Adam Clifton. Junior Ross Comeaux added a 20-yard field goal late in the first quarter to make it 10-7 Chestatee.
It would be the last lead the War Eagles would have. North Hall quarterback Corey Hutchins scored on runs of 24 and 16 before the end of the first half to give the Trojans a 21-10 lead.
Hutchins and Pitts each would add TD runs and Beau Whitmire scored on a 30-yard run to run the lead to 42-7 at the end of the third quarter. Whitmire would score again on a 95-yard TD pass from Hutchins early in the fourth quarter.
Sage would hook up with Alex Conti on a 25-yard TD pass with 1 second left in the game to finish the scoring.
Pitts would finish with 143 yards rushing on 14 carries to lead North Hall. Whitmire finished with 84 yards rushing and 104 yards receiving.
Sage finished with 72 yards passing and 42 yards rushing to lead Chestatee.
