Bad snaps cost Chestatee chance at first win

ELLIJAY - Special teams proved to be the undoing for the Chestatee football team Friday night against Gilmer.

The War Eagles gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown and then two bad snaps on punts proved disasterous in a 21-7 Gilmer win in Region 7-AAA.

Gilmer (3-2, 3-2) took the lead in the first quarter when the snap sailed over Chestatee punter Russ Comeaux's head and Gilmer recovered on the Chestate 3. The Bob cats punched it in on the next play.

Chestatee (0-5, 0-5) outgained Gilmer nearly two-to-one on offense and broke through in the second quarter when Miles hicks hit Ryan Fligg on a 30-yard scoring pass to make it 7-6.

The lead was shortlived, whoever, as Gilmer returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a TD and a 14-7 lead.

It stayed that way until midway through the third quarter. The Bobcats were forced to punt and it looked like Chestatee would be a to get some momentum going.

But another bad snap, this time by Gilmer, resulted in the Gilmer kicker picking up the ball and scrambling 30 yards for a first down. The Bobcats would later score again on a short drive.

Chestatee drove deep in Gilmer territory four times in the second half but came away with zero points.
