RABBITTOWN - A young East Hall football team finally showed its age last week.
After winning two straight games in impressive fashion to climb into fourth place in Region 7-AAA, the Vikings reverted back to their early season form.
"We made a lot of mistakes at bad times that cost us and we inconsistent on offense," East Hall coach Tim Marchman said. "But that's going to happen when you have a young team. It was disappointing but hopefully we can learn from those and improve."
East Hall (3-3, 3-3) will try to stay in the playoff race playing host to Fannin County (3-3, 3-3) Friday night at Valhalla. The game will be broadcast on MAJIC 1029-FM beginning with The Tailgate Show at 7 p.m.
Pickens exploited East Hall's weakness on defense and Marchman said he expects Fannin, which runs a similar offense, do try and duplicate it.
"We know each other and I'm sure they found some things from last week they use. But we feel like we can have some success offensively against them like we did against Pickens so I think it will balance out," he said.
Which means, which ever defense makes the most stops will win.
"Pickens made more last week and won. Hopefully we can make more this week and get a win," Marchman said. "Our defense has a lot potential and hopefully it can play up to that this week."
The loss for East Hall snapped a two-game winning streak. Vikings QB Lee Coleman was inconsistent hitting just 8-of-23 passes but did connect on three more TD passes last week, giving him 10 for the season. Fannin's win snapped a two-game losing streak and was the most points (41) they've scored all year.
Marchman said they know what's at stake.
"We've talked to the kids about the importance of this game. We also told them that if they take care of business every week that will take care of the region standings," he said. "We stumbled last week so that makes this week all the more important. The team that losses this game is probably going to have a tough time making the playoffs."
