GHS new No. 1 in Class AAA

ATLANTA - While Screven County's 22-game win streak ended last week, Gainesville extended its regular season win streak to 18 and completed its climb toward No. 1 in Class AAA.

Gainesville received 12 of the 15 first-place votes, and jumped from No. 2 to No. 1 in the latest poll. New second-place Peach County (7-1) received two first-place votes in The Associated Press Georgia high school football poll released Tuesday. Screven County (7-1) fell to No. 5.

North Hall (6-1) jumped back into the top 10 in Class AAA at No. 10 after recording its second straight shut out, a 42-0 win over Gilmer. Stephens County is No. 8 in Class AAA.

Camden County (7-0) continued its roll as the top team in the Class AAAAA poll. One week after a 57-0 rout of Brunswick, Camden County beat Johnson-Savannah 42-0 for its fourth straight shutout win. The Wildcats have allowed only one field goal in their last six games.

The most competitive battle for first place is in Class AAAA, where Thomas County Central (7-0) holds a narrow lead over No. 2 Marist (8-0). With eight first-place votes, Thomas County Central has 142 total votes. Marist has six first-place votes and 138 total votes. Ware County (6-1) is No. 5 with one first-place vote.

Thomas County Central plays host to Bainbridge Friday night while Marist plays host to Riverwood.

Three undefeated teams top the Class AA poll. Buford (7-0) has a firm hold on the top spot with 14 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 Early County (7-0) and No. 3 Vidalia (6-0-1).

Lincoln County (8-0) and Hawkinsville (7-0) hold the top two spots in the Class A poll, though No. 3 Clinch County (6-1-1) received three first-place votes after its 42-0 win over Seminole County.

Commerce is No. 9 in Class A.
