DECATUR - An autopsy shows the 16-year-old girl who died after completing a five-kilometer cross country race suffered a heart attack. <br>

Shai Owens was a junior at Cedar Grove High School in DeKalb County. She was rushed to a hospital after collapsing Tuesday night and pronounced dead a few hours later. The county medical examiner's office said Wednesday she had a heart attack. <br>

The race at Shamrock Middle School was the first of the season run by any DeKalb County public school. <br>

County school policy requires students' parents to sign permission forms that ask about pre-existing medical conditions. Cedar Grove's principal Sheryl Croft said Shai passed her mandatory annual doctor's examination recently.
